About me

Hi, I am Nick Gaines, author of this small blog.  I live in a ancient english village, with my wife Penny, three teenage children, several guitars, numerous computers and far too many books.

I have at various times worked as a nuclear engineer, mathematician, business strategist, CIO and construction programme manager. In these and other capacities I have undertaken genuinely challenging mega-projects and complex business change programmes.

As a result of these experiences, I have had many sleepless nights, my projects have won awards, and I have on occasion given lectures on project management to a number of professional bodies and academic institutions. Despite all this I still regularly make mistakes, and am learning a new lesson every day.  The surprising thing is that none of the lessons are new.  Every one is well known, and yet we all make those same mistakes.

Several people have asked me to write a book about the crazy things I have learned over the years.  I am of course too busy for this!  So instead here is my blog of random thoughts on aspects of change management.  Please enjoy.
