The "and" conversation

Often people say to me that time, cost, scope and quality are strongly inter-dependent concepts.  They argue that if I change one of these dimensions, another must change in response.  They say things like:  "You cannot make our project go faster without making it more costly", or "You can have either high quality or low cost".

This is a basic misunderstanding.  It is always possible to do change faster, cheaper and better.  The concepts are linked, but they are also dependent on your attitude and capability to manage risk and innovation.  You can break these links. What matters is the quality of your leadership, and the passion you inspire in others.

So don't have an either / or conversation.  Today, you can have an "and" conversation.
